This is my attempt to improve the appearance of NPCs in Fallout 3. I have redesigned their facial structure to make them look more realistic and to better fit their personality. This removes the awkward skin tones and facial structures of vanilla FO3.
disclaimer
If you have other mods installed, this mod may conflict with them. This is because of the way Fallout 3's engine is set up. When I edit a character's face, it also edits the character record (the game's "definition" of a character: their behavior, gear, voice, appearance, basically the whole character). When two loaded mods edit the same record, the game will only fetch data from the most recently installed mod's record. We call this a mod conflict. This issue is addressed with a compatibility patch: a new plugin that edits conflicting records and merges their changes.
I redesigned almost all characters in Fallout 3...so this mod won't be compatible with many other mods that edit npc's unless a compatibility patch is made.
What exactly does this mod do?
Nearly 500 npcs have had facelifts, makeovers and/or haircuts. Odd skin colors and head shapes were changed to be more realistic and human-like, and sometimes characters' faces or hairstyles were tweaked to better match their personalities. Almost everyone has been redesigned: Companions, Children, Talon mercenaries, Brotherhood, Slaves, Settlers, Raiders, NPCs with names, random walkers on the side of the road, etc.
I'm a big fan of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, which helped me create characters that fit Fallout 3. I also had experience with character design and portrait painting in the past, which helped me find the correct proportions for characters in Fallout 3.
My words of experience are:
If ever there was a face that needed fixing, I saw it. I do my best to make amends. I may not have succeeded, but I saw it and I wanted to fix it.
This mod will conflict with most mods that edit npcs.
If you try to use the redesign along with another mod that edits npcs, you will miss the redesign face or the other mod's changes.
Because the redesign is cosmetic and does not affect gameplay, it is recommended that you put our addon very early in your load order. This is so that in case of a conflict, the redesign will be overridden and not interfere with your game affecting mods.
It is recommended to use Vortex to install this mod, manual installation will cause the game to crash.
