ReShade presets to simulate cell shadow effects. If you disable the main effect but still use other effects, you can also double it as a solid non-celshade preset to show the color and clarity of the image.
1. Install ReShade on re2.exe. (Use Direct3D 10+ API option)
(The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RESIDENT EVIL 2 BIOHAZARD RE2\re2.exe)
2. Make sure to select the following effect files during the installation process:
Cartoon.fx
Clarity.fx
Colourfulness.fx
DPX.fx
FakeHDR.fx
FineSharp.fx
Levels.fx
MagicBloom.fx
Technicolor2.fx
You can choose others (I encourage anyone who uses ReShade to download and experiment with all effect files) but for preset purposes, these are the only effects you need.
3. Copy "Cla's Cel-Shade.ini" to the game folder and select it as the preset when ReShade asks. The other settings in this window can be kept separately.
Usage and tips:
This ReShade preset is designed for 4K and is suitable for 4K. The cartoon effect may cause the text to become unreadable at lower resolutions. By default, Clarity, FineSharp, and MagicBloom effects are turned off because they may be dense, but you should try to turn it on at least once and see if FPS is acceptable, because they really help the screen look clearer, especially text. (My preview video has 3 effects turned off because I cannot run the game at 60FPS and run at 4K resolution) You may also want to change the image quality setting in the game to 50% because the extra details of higher settings may Will cause a cartoon effect to draw a lot of cultural relics on the screen. (It's 4K anyway. Maybe it's safe to keep 100% at a lower resolution, otherwise you may lose too much detail and become blurred) You may also disable motion blur for similar reasons. (Blurred background when moving the camera may cause Cartoon.fx to spit out a dirtier image) If you want extra FPS, you can also change the rendering mode to interlaced, because this ReShade preset actually looks good. If your crosshair is set to white and it is difficult to see, please switch it to another color. (Red or green seems best)
If you don't know how to use ReShade in the game, just press Home to bring up the ReShade menu. From there, the only thing you need to worry about is the "Home" tab used to switch specific effects. (Make sure to check the "Performance Mode" checkbox at the bottom, unless you intend to mess up the individual settings for each effect) Although you don't need to do this, because installing as described above will leave those effects already turned on. The "Settings" tab also has functions that you want to browse and become familiar with. (That is, set a button to quickly switch on and off all effects)
As a bonus, if you use this ReShade preset but close Cartoon.fx, you will be left with another solid ReShade, which can display the color and clarity of the image without the cel-shade effect.
Uninstall:
You don't actually need to uninstall ReShade, because you can disable all effects or switch to an invalid profile at any time. But if you have to uninstall it, all you have to do is delete/rename/move the files created during the installation process. That is:
dxgi.dll
ReShade.ini
CLA’s CEL-shade.ini and any other ReShade profile.ini files may have the reshade-shade folder.
In fact, just renaming dxgi.dll is enough to effectively disable ReShade, if you want to be able to re-enable it easily in the future without having to reinstall it.
